This course invites students to explore the diverse political landscape of the African continent, challenging prevailing stereotypes that depict Africa as underdeveloped and politically unstable. Through engaging with scholarly texts, films, and creative works, we will examine how key themes such as the legacies of colonialism, democratization, digitization, ethnicity, and gender have impacted governance and politics on the continent. By the end of the course, students will gain a nuanced understanding of the continents political transformations and the dynamic ways in which Africans are continuously reshaping their political and social environments.
